Sticks and Stones

Vintage photographs were purchased and donated for this project. The identities of the individuals are unknown. This is how we see strangers on the street or on the bus—we make judgements based on what we see before we even get to know.

The Sticks and Stones series look sat how we judge, how we make assumptions based on first-impressions, body language, and dress. It also looks at these judgements from a female persepective and the names that are flung at women in particular. The name of each piece however, is a female name not  the word stitches onto the image revealing the individual in the image.

These pieces are hand stitched. The type has been hand cut from paper and sewn into place.
