Solace

Encouraged to marry what I create through hand craft techniques with my design I decided to design a short graphic novel entitled Solace using hand sewn dolls as the characters. I looked to Freud and his thoughts regarding the influence of family on the individual.

The reason I chose dolls is their allusion to the child whom which Freud used for most of his studies. Using the weave of the fabric, stitching and fibers as metaphors for family relations and the differention of self I created a narrative that describes the struggle to be a part of and, at the same time, independent from the family unit.
